St Albans Cathedral

For 12 days, temporary ramped access was necessary during the winter graduation ceremonies held at St Albans Cathedral.

Our in-house design team generated CAD drawings based on the client's technical plan and field notes from our site surveyor.

During the on-site survey, a lidar scanner was utilised to digitally scan and map the entire area, encompassing the building, various floor levels, ceiling heights, and any obstacles.

This technology allows us to conduct site surveys efficiently, even within tight time constraints. After collecting the data, our in-house drawing team successfully created a 3D representation of the systems overlaid on an accurate depiction of the actual location.

Swift installation of the internal ramps in both north and south directions occurred within a few hours.

Careful measures were taken during the installation to safeguard the cathedral's floors and walls. No ground or wall attachments were necessary, as the system's own weight secures it in a freestanding position. Additionally, it features multiple legs to evenly distribute the load, and slip-resistant rubber tiles were placed beneath each supporting foot.

The south ramp, designed with three entry points, effectively overcomes steps leading to the upper level. It also includes a step unit for able-bodied users. Similarly, the north ramp provides wheelchair access, overcoming steps.

On the 12th day, the system was disassembled and added to our rental inventory for future projects. The entire rental process, from design and supply to installation and removal, was handled in-house.
