Providing Wheelchair Access to a Changing Places Toilet

The ramp, landing, upstands, and handrails had to meet the stringent requirements outlined in Approved Documents K and M of the Building Regulations for full compliance.

In favour of a modular solution, the customer opted against concrete. Much like the pod, a modular system offers the advantage of easy removal and relocation, which concrete ramps cannot provide.

We generated CAD drawings internally, using the project's technical drawings provided by the client as a foundation.

A Rapid Ramp with a straight layout was swiftly installed in a matter of hours.

This particular configuration, often referred to as a straight ramp, is characterised by its uninterrupted direction.

It incorporates a compliant 1:15 gradient and a platform that extends across the width of the disabled access door, providing ample space for wheelchair manoeuvring.

FEATURES INCLUDED:

• Trombone Ends - these are added to the ends of a Rapid Ramp to prevent clothes catching.
• Mesh Platform - the self-draining mesh allows water to pass through rather than collect on the surface.
• Continuous Handrail - this handrail system ensures users always have support to hold onto.
• Black Powder Coated Finish – rails are coated with thermosetting powder to provide a non-conductive, non-slip and scratch resistant surface.
• Standard Handrail - this handrail system ensures users always have support to hold onto.

Changing Places facilities are designed to be fully accessible units equipped with specialised amenities and ample space to cater to individuals with profound disabilities who require extra support when using restroom facilities.
